The fashion shows that we saw around the world this past September were some of the most innovative ones yet. Gone are the days where buyers and press are simply sitting in a hotel or loft watching models walk down a runway. Designers are coming up with very interesting ways to make the show more of a complete experience, not just about the garments.
One example is the Alexander Wang show where the models had presentations throughout the streets of New York City before finally ending in Brooklyn for the full show. Having the show literally on the streets of manhattan follows the streetstyle spirit of the brand itself. This unique concept makes this show one of my personal favorites.
Not only was the actual show different and interesting, the clothing didn’t disappoint either. Following the streetstyle vibe characteristic to Wang’s previous collections, there was a lot of layering of different fabrics, like denim cutoff shorts styled over leather leggings.
Bringing in this contrast between dark and light, and mixing harsh fabrics with softer more traditionally feminine ones, really shows that there are both of those styles, and personalities, in everyone. This season especially we have seen a switch to more androgynous silhouettes and a blurring of style lines, and this collection fits perfectly into that trend. It is not just one style, it is all of them.
